Score!! v0.3 Playtest Release

Coming up on the home stretch...

v0.3 of Score!! is out now for playtesting! There are some changes to existing playbooks and rules, but the biggest update is the new playbooks. Following is the full breakdown:

NEW CONTENT

  • The Reigning Champs is a new team playbook focused on what it's like to be at the top. This is the hard mode playbook - every move you take gives the Ref more tools for the opponents.
  • The Heart is a new athlete playbook that lets you play as the, well, heart of the team. You're great at helping your teammates succeed when things get tough, but you'll have to make sure you keep in mind why you're competing, too.

CHANGES TO PLAYBOOKS

  • Team Playbooks
    • All team playbooks have the athlete agenda written out, with 3 specific agenda points for each playbook.
  • The Rising Stars
    • Living the Dream is a new move that allows athletes to more effectively recuperate from facing off against higher-Tier teams.
  • The Fallen Titans
    • The playbook name has changed from The Fallen Champions to The Fallen Titans to not overlap with The Reigning Champs.
    • Sleeping Giants is a new move that lets athletes get XP by fighting back against their reputations as has-beens.
  • Athlete Playbooks
    • The Look categories for all playbooks have changed from Eyes, Hands, & Body to Hair, Body, & Style.
    • All athlete playbooks have the athlete agenda written out, with 3 specific agenda points for each playbook.
  • The Ace
    • Go Big or Go Home is now Double Down, which no longer adds an additional 1D for balance reasons.
    • You can now take Someone Worth Fighting For up to 3 times, each time with a different teammate.
  • The Captain has changed from an athlete archetype to a new type: a varsity playbook. Varsity playbooks have greater control over the direction of the team with the ability to override team advancements! You can't start the game as a Captain, but you can change to being one when you have the chance to change playbooks.
  • The Natural
    • You start with 1 fewer teammate belief to reinforce relying on techniques.
    • Equals on the Court now rerolls any 1s you roll while your Rival belief is on the line instead of adding +1D. In addition, it is now exclusive with the new move Team Player - if you take one, you can't take the other.
  • The Punk
    • Take a Chance has been replaced with Risky Business, a move that keys off of leaving it all on the field, a new mechanic for v0.3. This feature is designed to help the Punk "burn out" more effectively and get to the point where their consequences catch up to them.
    • Eye of the Beholder has been removed and rolled into a technique boost for Goon.
    • No Filter is a new move that lets you get reactions out of people. What those reactions are won't be entirely in your control, though.
    • Play Hard, Party Harder has been changed to work with Risky Business.
    • Tit for Tat has been removed.
  • The Rookie
    • You no longer start with any techniques. To compensate, you now start with Beginner's Luck.
    • Sincerest Form of Flattery is a new move that helps reinforce you looking to teammates for guidance on how to compete.
  • The Star
    • Better Good Than Lucky gained a new ability to allow you to selfishly bow out when someone Trains With the Team.
    • A Little Help From My Friends now also lets you heal your teammates' Stress when you Relax With Friends.

CHANGES TO RULES

  • The Match
    • Get a Leg UpLevel the Playing Field received a new 4-5 option to make the benefit permanent at the cost of Stress. Athletes weren't getting stressed enough in previous playtests, so this should help.
    • Leaving it all on the field is a new mechanic for v0.3. Inspired by the Devil's Bargain mechanic from Blades in the Dark and its variants, leaving it all on the field allows athletes to get an extra 1D in exchange for drama or trouble. Perhaps your parents, who forbid you from competing, turn on the TV and see you playing on the local sports station. Maybe you reopen an old sports injury. That's up to you and the Ref to decide!
  • Downtime
    • The questions for Chance Encounter were updated to add more drama and work better with the Star's Green-Eyed Monster move.
  • Rivalry
    • The rules for rivals has been added! You can find this on the Downtime sheet.

Please note that this will likely be the last update before the final game is released.
